City sales tax revenue down

Eupora’s sales tax revenue for February was down from the same month
last year, new reports show.

The city received a transfer of $31,113 from the Mississippi
Department of Revenue. That’s down 10.4 percent from the $34,731
received in February 2012.

For the fiscal year to date (since July 1), the city has received
$311,085 in sales tax revenue, compared with $333,140 for the
previous fiscal year up to February, a decrease of about 6.6 percent.

In Mathiston, February collections were $14,760 , which is 3.1
percent less than the $14,316 collected a year earlier. Fiscal year-
to-date collections are $136,720, a decrease of 4.6 percent from the
$143,384 collected during the same period last year.

Sales are reported in the month of the consumer purchases and
municipalities receive sales tax money two months later.

These figures reflect other area taxes collected on February sales
with 2012 figures in parentheses:
• Maben: $5,944 ($6,343)
• Mantee: $2,442 ($2,441)
• Walthall: $1,571 ($2,041)
