Webster County Schools
Construction at East Webster High School campus in Cumberland is
progressing at a pace that. according to Panola Construction, should
have us ready for school in August.
A Panola Construction Co. representative at the March construction
meeting told us that mid-summer was still the target date for
completion. They feel that if they have sunny days and spring weather
that they can make up any lost time. The existing building on the
EWHS Cumberland campus is nearing completion and should be ready by
the end of school.
Construction has begun on the band hall and the field house
construction is near completion. Work on the gymnasium is about to
start and should have a completion date of late September or early
Other construction projects that are under way for Webster County
Schools include an expansion of the cafeteria at Eupora Elementary,
and at Eupora High School a baseball field house and a PE/
multipurpose building are in the early construction phases. We are
currently seeking permission from the Mississippi Department of
History and Archives to tear down the old gym at Eupora High School
because of its deterioration.
Webster County Schools are grateful for the continued support of the
Golden Triangle Planning and Development District, which owns the
Wood College campus in Mathiston where the East Webster High campus
is currently housed. GTPDD Director Rudy Johnson has worked with the
Webster County Board of Supervisors and the Board of Education, which
has allowed us to use Wood College with minimal interruption of the
educational process for EWHS.
With the assistance of our local legislators — Reps. Joey Hood, Bobby
Howell and Jim Beckett —, FEMA/MEMA and insurance, we are able to
rebuild our East Webster High School campus without added cost to the
taxpayers of Webster County. When you take everything into account
that has occurred over the last two years we have been truly blessed.
Thanks to the citizens of Webster County for your continued support
in new construction and in the education of our children.
