Mrs. Contreras was a homemaker. She died Feb. 2, 2013.

Survivors include five sons, Frank Contreras of Tunica, Ben Contreras of Horn Lake, Andrew Contreras of Cleveland, Sammy Contreras of Minter City and Adam Contreras of Eupora; a sister, Martina Andino of New Orleans; a brother, David Burgos of Louisville, Ky.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Barbara Dale Pogue Feb. 3, 2013 Services for Barbara Dale Pogue, 67, of Ackerman were Feb. 6, 2013, at Antioch Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Saunders officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She was born Nov. 15, 1945, in Doddsville. Mrs. Pogue was a teacher/ personal care homeworker. She died Feb. 3, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Pogue of Ackerman; two sons, Joey Miller of Jasper, Fla., and Devion Pogue of Ackerman; two brothers, Wesley Gammill of Ackerman and Wilson Gammill Sr. of Coker, Ala.; two sisters, Martha Adams of Anacortee, Wash., and Juanita Harding of Petal; her father, Jessie Gammill of Ackerman; and two grandchildren. Mr. Stephens was a retired carpenter. He died Jan. 31, 2013, at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred B. Stephens of Florence; a daughter; Sharon Stephens Ferrell of Leeds, Ala.; a son, Mark Stephens of Brandon; two sisters, Virginia Stephens Meeker of San Antonio, Texas, and Edna Stephens Thornton of Florence; and six grandchildren.

J.T. Tennyson Jan. 19, 2013 Services for Jack Tullos “J.T.” Tennyson 20, of Eupora were Jan. 25, 2013, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Revs. Rob Faulk and Curtis Guess officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born Nov. 11, 1992, in Eupora. Mr. Tennyson graduated from Ackerman High School, where he played football and was a member of the FFA. He died Jan. 19, 2013, at Scott and White Trauma Center in Temple, Texas.

Survivors include his parents James “Kooter” and Shelia Tennyson of Eupora; five sisters, April Stringer of Raymond, Tina Elkins of West Point, Michelle Edwards of West Point, Shea Rosamond of Kosciusko and Danielle Tennyson of Eupora; four brothers, Jamie Tennyson of Washington, Jason Edwards of West Point, Wesley Tennyson of Eupora, and Derrick Tennyson of Clarkville, Tenn.; his grandmother, Ruby Stafford of West Point; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wister D. Gary, Jr., 57, died Feb. 3, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services were held 2:00 PM Wed., Feb. 6, 2013 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Webster Memorial Garden Cemetery in Webster County. Bro. Billy Michael Trull officiated.

Pallbearers were Dale and Phillip Bailey, John Pederman, Bill Baker, Carl Click and Michael “Catfish” Brown. Wister was a member of the Eupora First Baptist Church and an Army Veteran.

Mavis Brewer Summerall Eupora, MS

Mavis Brewer Summerall, 91, died Monday, January 28, 2013 at North MS Medical Center in Eupora. A memorial service was at 2:00 pm Saturday at Cumberland Baptist Church in Cumberland with Rev. Kermit Summerall, III officiating. Burial was at Clarkson Cemetery in Webster County.

She was a member of Cumberland Baptist Church. Mrs. Summerall was born, raised and married in Webster County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Franklin and Annie Brewer; brothers, Louis, Robert Lee and Willie; sisters, Ivy Lou and Eileen.

She graduated from Cumberland High School and attended Wood Junior College in Mathiston. She married Kermit Summerall, now deceased of Maben. Her youngest daughter, Frankie Ann Crittenden was killed in 1987.

She worked as a hairdresser with Helan Barton-Cash inEupora, on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN, and was retired from the U.S. Army Civil Service in Huntsville, AL where she resided for 39 years. While working with the U. S. Army as a secretary, she was privileged to work on the Apollo and Saturn space program. She witnessed Apollo X lift off.

Survivors include her daughter, Myrna Crittenden of Eupora, MS; a son, Kermit Summerall, Jr. of Huntsville, AL; sister, Louise Oliver of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Will (Melinda) Crittenden of Yuma, AZ, Gaylon (Kristen) Crittenden of Zebulon, NC, Charlene Rutherford of Eupora, MS, Rev. Kermit (Nicole) Summerall, III of Columbia, MO, Melonie Irons of Tuscumbia, AL, Tsetsy Goode of Virginia Beach, VA; and 14 grandchildren.

Jeffrey Clell Morton

Jeffrey Clell Morton, age 55, went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2013 at his home in Kingwood, Texas. Memorial services were held Monday, January 28 at the Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas and again on Saturday, February 2 at First Baptist Church, Franklin, NC.

Since 2008, Jeff had served the Southern Texas Section of the PGA of America as Director of Operations, Rules and Competitions. Over the course of Jeff’s 30 year career in golf, he served in several capacities, including:

• Regional Director of Texas Golf Association (2003-2008) • Executive Director of the Mississippi Golf Association (1994-2002) • Tournament Director for the Deposit Guaranty Gold Classic (1994-1997) • Head Professional and Co-Owner of Lakeland Golf Center, Jackson, MS (1993-1994) • LPGA Rules/Tournament Official (1988-1993) • Assistant Golf Professional, Colonial Country Club, Jackson, MS (1984-1988)

His contributions to the game of golf and to his fellow PGA Members earned him many accolades, such as: • “Carpenter-Linsay Award” (Gulf States PGA,, 2002) • PGA Professional of the Year (Gulf States PGA, 1987) • PGA Apprentice of the Year (Gulf States PGA,1985) • Member, Mississippi PGA Cup Team (1986-1987) • Highest Rating, USGA Rules of Golf (1988, 1992, 1999, 2006) • Instructor-Rules, Tournament Administration (PGA of America, 1994, 1995, 1996) • USGA Regional Association Committee Member (1997-2002; 2004-2008)

Jeff was nationally regarded as one of the foremost authorities on the USGA Rules of Golf, its decisions and golf tournament operations. His experience and the lives he touched spanned all levels, amateurs and professionals, men and women. He gave freely of his time and expertise to everyone.

The grandson of the late John and Marie Vaughan of Eupora, Jeff has many relatives in Webster County. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, he gathered the descendants of the late Joe and Nora Vaughan together biannually for the Vaughan Reunion held in Eupora. Under his leadership the reunion continued to be a celebration of love and appreciation of family. Jeff was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
