Story appropriate after snow

MABEN — Despite the snow on the ground and the really cold nip in the air, brave mommas and grandmothers brought out their children for the Friday morning story hour at the Maben Public Library with Mary Boutwell on Jan. 18.

Mrs. Mary chose “There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow” for the day’s story; it was most appropriate as the area had just received 4 inches of snow.

The story was about an old lady who swallowed some snow, a pipe, some coal, a hat, a stick and a scarf. Well, when she hiccupped out popped a snowman with a scarf around his neck, a pipe in his mouth, two sticks for arms, a hat on his head and coal for buttons down his chest. Who would have thought any such thing?

Afterwards, Mrs. Mary had them create snowmen using marshmallows, M&Ms, toothpicks and caramel topping to glue everything together. It tasted great!!

Then the next best part was having hot chocolate with marshmallows served with a smile to eat with the marshmallow snowman. YUM! Then the children picked out books, got their stick of gum, waved goodbye and left with momma in tow.
