T-shirt sales benefit local children

From Press Reports

The planning committee for the ninth annual Eupora Christmas Market asked Michael Murphy to be the chairperson for the Christmas T-shirts.

He contacted Lisa Hester, art teacher for Eupora and East Webster schools, to have students from both schools enter the art contest for the shirt design. The theme for the 2012 market, which was Dec. 1, was “Let Freedom Ring with the Bells of Christmas.”

After reviewing the many designs, Madison Smith’s artwork was chosen for the back of the T-shirt. Her theme included a sleigh with Uncle Sam, Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and an Eagle riding in the sleigh with Santa waving to them. Lee Starks’ design of Liberty bells with stars and stripes was chosen for the front of the T-shirt. Also on the T-shirt was the logo of the sponsors.

The committee expressed appreciation to these sponsors in making the T-shirts possible: Regions bank, SuperValu, Mississippi HomeCare, Larry’s of Eupora, North Mississippi Medical Center, Golden Rehab and Murphy Medical Supply.

“INK IT,” located in Styles by Megan, printed all of the T-shirts. A total of 235 were printed. Smith and Starks were given T-shirts for their help in the design of these shirts.

Proceeds from the T-shirt sales were used to buy coats and/or shoes for East Webster and Eupora Elementary School students from a list compiled by teachers from those schools. Fifty-seven coats and three pairs of shoes were purchased and distributed to principals Trey Rolison of EES and Jim Ray of EWES before the Christmas break.

Anyone interested in purchasing a Christmas T-shirt for further use to purchase more shoes for these children may contact Eupora City Hall at 258-2291. All proceeds from the sales of these T-shirts will go to purchase shoes for these children.

The planning committee for the Christmas Market thanked the city of Eupora and Webster County for their continued support of this market each year.
