Guest speaker Craig Bjorgum updated the Eupora Rotary Club about Eupora Arts Inc. on Oct. 30.
The non-profit organization has received Building Fund for the Arts grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission since 2001 to buy and renovate what is now the BLY Fine Arts Center. The most recent MAC grant was used in part to buy and develop the adjoining vacant lot for outdoor events and as a walkway connecting downtown to the new city parking lot.
“We’ve come a long way through a lot of volunteer labor and coordination with MAC,” said Bjorgum, acting president of Eupora Arts. “We’re really fortunate to have this place (the BLY).”
He noted the flexibility for uses of the building, describing it as having only “four walls, a ceiling and a floor (and great acoustics).”
Plans for Eupora Arts, according to Bjorgum, include a new board, new and improved website, community art projects, extending efforts to seek out local talent, forming relationships with schools, ongoing gallery exhibits and displays, movies and concerts, and community partnerships.
